Description of Presentation:

This is "hands on" workshop to provide participants with an opportunity to problem solve intervention issues as they address student support difficulties at tiers 2 and 3. The workshop is most relevant to those practitioners who have been implementing a tiered model of support and have questions and challenges with students who have been identified as needing small group or individual supports. Participants will hear about some situations encountered and addressed by the presenter in her work consulting with schools. They will also have the opportunity to present challenging situations they are encountering and brain storm solutions within a supportive workshop environment. Lastly, the presenter will provide some resources for participants to access in the future as they encounter perplexing student support situations, particularly with respect to specific student populations, i.e. ADHD, ASD, etc.

Goals of Presentation:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Learn about resources they can access to address more complex student support needs in general and for specific populations

2. Develop problem solving approaches for more difficult student needs at the tier 2 and 3 levels

3. Develop some specific solutions for situations they are encountering.

Continuing Education Policy

The Massachusetts School Psychologists Association is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to offer contact hours. The DESE requires the completion of a pre-test, which is to be completed prior to the workshop start time. A post-test is also required and will be given at the end of the workshop. Participants must attend the ENTIRE WORKSHOP and satisfy state regulations in order to receive contact hours. Each participant is responsible for knowing and meeting the DESE licensure requirements.

CE HOURS: The Massachusetts School Psychologists Association is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to sponsor continuing education (CE) for psychologists. In keeping with NASP requirements, these are awarded in contact hours only. CE hours will be awarded at the close of the workshop.  MSPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
