Description of Presentation:
School psychologists frequently encounter ethical issues in their work that can cause them considerable stress. Ethics experts recommend proactive efforts to reduce this stress.
Case analysis provides an opportunity to both practice and improve skills in ethical problem solving. Cases will deal with current ethical concerns of practicing school psychologists. More specifically, cases to address issues involving confidentiality when working on teams, technology, conflicts with administrators, and diversity issues will be presented. The advantages of using a decision-making model and keeping careful records of the decision-making process will be emphasized. Participants will have the opportunity to update their skills in ethical problem solving around providing services in schools.
Goals of Presentation:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the situations which cause the most common ethical dilemmas in practice
2. Use a model for improved ethical decision making, for recording and for defending decision making
3. Improve skills in ethical decision making in complex and messy situations and appreciating possible consequences
4. Become more proactive in preventing ethical conflicts with other professionals
5. Develop more ethical practice in collaborative teaming
